One of the things our society often refuses to accept from women is their anger. There’s just no way you can be angry as a woman; it would be seen as sheer disrespect. And what’s even more frowned upon? A “young” woman being angry. When a young woman, who’s progressive and aware of her rights, refuses to align with societal norms and raises her voice against them, she faces severe backlash for expressing her opinions on social issues and personal grievances. Society believes she shouldn’t be speaking up in the first place; she should simply adhere to the directions given to her. I know many of you’re thinking that this can’t be true in the 21st century but it sadly is.
On the other hand, men, especially older men, often brag about how angry they can get and how their fury can shame others. There’s something deeply wrong with anyone who supports or justifies this double standard. It’s disheartening that even after years of progress, women are still not allowed to express themselves freely. If they do, they are labeled as ill-mannered, ungracious, rude, unpleasant, and more. There are so many things that are not talked about as often as they should be.
Why are women in most societies expected to always be loving and perpetually happy figures, and why does society reject them if they don’t conform to these expectations?
Why are women not allowed to feel?
